CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
Festive Lights This year’s festive light display was very lovely but was limited by cost. The display is not Council – funded but by voluntary contributions from residents, some shopkeepers and the MRA. This year, the Committee is looking to raise £4,250, plan to start the fundraising earlier than usual, and hope to involve more traders.
Planning One of the MRA’s functions is to monitor planning applications within the MRA boundary, on both the Bromley and Greenwich sides, and to support residents who have concerns. If necessary, MRA Committee members will also attend the Local Planning Committee meeting to speak on their behalf. In the past year, there have been many applications with which we have become involved. Anyone interested can access the planning portal of the appropriate borough.– See report below.
Foxes Field Footpath
At last year’s meeting, it was reported that the MRA had obtained funding from Bromley Council to build the said footpath, allowing access, particularly in wet weather, for prams and wheelchairs, to the playground. Happily, after a few hiccups, the footpath is in place and is very well used. It could be wider, but is definitely a welcome addition.
Playground
Residents with access to small children may be aware of the huge improvements in the playground on Mottingham/Foxes Fields. (See report below) This is totally down to the amazing fundraising efforts of three very special women – Rachel Travers, Sian Halcrow-Wilson and Tamsin Wright. MRA can’t claim any hand in this, other than offering banking facilities and welcoming 2 new Committee members and further collaboration as evidenced by the Saturday morning clean-up exercises, organised by the FFF and MRA. MRA is sure that many residents are weary of the litter, the numerous stickers over doorways, and the general air of some of the village being uncared for. So a start has been made and clear-up days have been undertaken with support of several volunteers. Look out for notices.
Clive Efford MP At the end of the meeting, the Chair welcomed our new MP who was invited to address the meeting, after the non-political mandate of the MRA’s activities was pointed out. He was complimentary about reports he had heard of the nature and effects of the MRA and was available for discussion with residents.
Treasurer’s Report
Subscription income was £2,281 (up £392) indicating membership of 706 (up from 630). Expenditure was £5,199 which included an additional £500 to the Festive Lights Fund and a £3,088 top-up contribution to the £20,000 from the Bromley Borough Jubilee Fund for the Foxes Field footpath. The meeting agreed to raising the annual subscription per household from £3 to £5 after the Treasurer anticipated ongoing rising costs and a desire to build up reserves from £14,000 to £20,000 over time.
