Closure of Eltham Police Station. Comment via Facebook

As you probably know, Eltham Police Station is to be closed.

The plan is to have Dedicated Ward Officers (DWOs) based in hubs in each ward. At the consultation meeting, it was made clear that response to incidents would not be affected by the closure as that is not where officers come from now when there is an incident. Plumstead police station will be open 24/7 and non-urgent issues can be reported on twitter @MetCC, online at https://www.met.police.uk/report/ (which will be responded to be the Digital 101 team) and by phoming 101.

There is an Eltham Police Facebook Page to put your comments on and you can see the Mayor’s consulation on www.london.gov.uk before 6th October. The reason for the closure is the real term government cuts. Since 2010 the Met has had to find £600m of savings with a further £400m needed by 2020. The police station is an expensive building to maintain and is in any case only open 5 days a week and in office hours, with low usage. The emphasis is on keeping officers in preference to a building.
